Corey has been serving as pastor of Ely Presbyterian Church since 2014. Passionate about building a welcoming, intergenerational community, Corey brings his love for the outdoors, coffee, and down-to-earth conversations into his ministry. Whether he's hiking, canoeing, or cycling through the beautiful landscapes of Ely, Corey finds inspiration in nature and in the people of the church.

Corey’s sermons aim to connect with both the young and the seasoned, always focusing on the wonder of God's love and the sacredness of everyday life. His wife Kristen, along with their two children, share in the church’s vibrant community, where all are encouraged to explore faith in a way that feels authentic and meaningful.

Mike is at home in front of a piano keyboard, or a choir ... and often both! He loves being a part of this vibrant congregation and the privilege to “make a joyful noise” on Sunday mornings! Behind the scenes, Mike enjoys studying each Sunday’s scripture lessons and working to choose hymns and anthems that reflect and support Corey’s thoughtful sermons.

Mike and his wife, Billie, paddled the Boundary Waters Canoe Area on their honeymoon (too many years ago to count) and fell in love ... with Northern Minnesota (they already kind of liked each other at the time). Several years and three daughters later, they moved from Indianapolis to Birch lake where they have lived for the past 30+ years ... and had two more children in the process! They are still paddling in sync in this beautiful place they call home!

Mike is a music teacher and choir director at the Ely Schools, but his favorite time of the week is adult choir practice and Sunday service at Ely Presbyterian Church (but don’t tell his students that ... they think they are his favorite)!

Ellen Pierce is our gifted pianist who brings both artistry and dedication to Ely Presbyterian Church. A retired science teacher, Ellen stays busy tending to a flock of sheep and transforming their fleeces into beautiful handspun yarn and woven pieces. She began playing piano at age five, thanks to supportive parents who encouraged her love of music and involvement in the church choir. Today, Ellen continues to share her passion for music with us, enriching our worship services with her joyful and heartfelt playing.

Alex is a lifelong Ely resident who brings her love for the community to everything she does at the church. As a mom of three energetic boys, she skillfully juggles her custodial duties with her day job at Insula. She's passionate about plants, animals, and mac & cheese and rarely turns down the opportunity to jump off the dock for a swim in Burnside Lake. Known for bringing life back into things—like the church’s peace lily—Alex’s care and dedication help keep everything in tip-top shape around here.
